Surprisingly I didn’t see very many movies this summer. Usually I’m hitting the theaters like they are going out of style, but for a reason unknown, this summer was different. Either way I stand by my 5, and I’m pretty sure if I had seen 5, or even 10 more movies, these 5 would still be where they are in the list. (Maybe with the exception of Wall-E…. Still want to see that one.)
5) Iron Man- I’m not exactly sure if this one can fall under the category of a “summer flick” considering it was released on May 2nd, but I’ll do it anyway.
I thought it was a pretty solid movie. Very well done. RDJ was funny, Gweneth Paltro was adorable, and the action kept me feeling like a man, although I’m not so sure it lived up to all the hype. (Maybe it had something to do with the fact that I saw it 3 times, 2 of those times in which it kind of fizzled out.) Either way… good flick.
4) Pineapple Express- I know what your thinking… “Typical, stupid stoner movie.” ….. Maybe… but I found it very funny, and very entertaining. I love Judd Apatow’s movies and I find Seth Rogan to be a really funny guy. Him and James Franco made a great team. I think it is deserving of the #4 spot.
3) The Happening- Say what you will, but know that I am a huge Shyamalan fan. I know, I know, Lady in the water sucked, he dishes out the same plot.. blah blagh blugh, but I find Him to be a great writer, as well as a director. Call me crazy, but his movies really do it for me. The Happening was no different. I thought this movie was absolutely perfect for what it was, and once again monumental crowds of ignorant “movie goers” filled the theaters expecting to be scared to wits end when they KNOW that Shyamalan is notorious for fooling people with the apparent “scary movie.” Wise up people. Oh… and Zoey was smokin’ by the way.
2) The Incredible Hulk- Edward Freaking Norton….(That is his middle name I swear.) He wrote the screenplay, he rocked those cut-off blue jeans, and his girlfriend was the incredibly beautiful Liv Tyler. Need I say more? I will… I think it is safe to say that I will put this one in my top 5… eh.. maybe top 6 super hero movies that I have seen. This rendition of the Hulk movies was FAR better than previous attempts. That’s not opinion, I promise. See it if you haven’t.
1) The Dark Knight- Duh…. That could by all I say and everyone in America would know what’s up. It was that good…It will always be that Good. It was midnight showing, and 2 more times in IMAX good. Heath Ledger blew my mind, Christian Bale was awesome once again, (despite that weird voice he put on), Micheal Kane was brilliant and charming as always, and Morgan Freeman… well he’s Morgan Freeman… he’s a BAMF. I know there were other main characters that deserve some recognition… so I will say a thing or two about them. I thought Aaron Eckhart did a great job. It is hard for me to really expound on my feelings for his “skillz” for two reasons… 1) because I don’t think I have ever seen him in anything else… and 2) because his character was so short lived… I guess. Either way I thought he was great asset to the movie. Maggie Gyllenhaal…. I know I will get crucified for this one, but I have to be honest. I thought she was good. I thought she did a fine job in her roll. My beef with her was that I don’t feel like she brought anything new to the table. I really couldn’t tell a difference between her and Katie Holmes. Sorry… I guess I was expecting something a little bit more from the transition from Holmes to Gyllenhaal… Either way… she wasn’t bad by any means.
Best super hero movie I have ever seen.
(There are so many sweet movie posters to put here.)
So there you have it. There are still some movies I have yet to see, and there are still a few to come out that could probably be considered “Summer Flicks” that might make this list… so I hope this wasn’t premature…. Maybe not…

Check out Thank You For Smoking for something with Eckhart in it. I learned everything I know about rhetoric from that movie.
And dude, I’ve got to (respectfully) disagree with you on The Happening. Worst Shyamalan movie ever. Not because it wasn’t scary enough or anything like that, just the fact that it had a completely asinine plot and a tacked on message of environmental awareness. Not to mention the fact that the acting was completely wooden. When good actors do badly in a movie, its the directors fault.
Here’s to hoping the next one is better.

ha its cool dude. to each his own. I will admit that the acting was a little… eh… not the best. (and some parts just bad.) I’m just such a sucker for the way Shyamalan ties things together in his movies, and I would be willing to admit that I let that get in the way of a lot of other elements in his films.
as far as the next one goes… don’t get to excited. I believe its an anime film called “The Last Airbender” or something like that. Maybe it will be good…?
and pineapple express was hott man

My brother loves the Last Airbender.

I had never heard of it before, and it is very hard for me to get excited about anime.

Oh believe me, I’ve managed to resist the temptation. What I am excited about is the next Coen brothers movie. Frances McDormand!, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and some other people I can’t remember will all dawn the screen. It’s gonna be baller-centric.

i enjoyed the happening. i didn’t see the Hulk. Iron Man was good, but if you had seen Tropic Thunder I think it would have bumped Iron Man off. It wouldn’t matter though because it’s still RDJ

yea I’m interested in seeing it I just haven’t got around to it yet. It seems like it has a pretty good cast. Make for some laughs.
