Here are my favorite P.T.A. films, in order.
5. Sydney aka Hard Eight (1996) *I have only seen this one once, so it might make its way down up the list over time.
4. Boogie Nights (1997)
3. There Will Be Blood (2007)
2. Punch-Drunk Love (2002)
1. Magnolia (1999)
*I haven’t seen Cigarettes and Coffee…I’ll get back to you

I agree except for Punch Drunk Love. I’d probably switch that to #4 and move everything else up.

I can understand that. For me, the main reason it is high on the list is because its such a wonderful love story. A little more blatantly redeeming than his other films if you will.

I thought Magnolia was the most blatantly redemptive film of his, and one of the most redemptive films ever made. But I see what you’re saying. Boogie Nights was redemptive in its own little way.
I think one reason Punch Drunk didn’t do it for me like the others was Adam Sandler, who I’m predisposed to hate. But he wasn’t himself in that movie, so I give it a past.

Boogie Nights had its own 13 inches of redemption….sick… lol
I can’t blame you for the Adam Sandler factor.
I think the only time I truly find his work funny is when he is with Chris Farley. (With Farley carrying the vast majority of the funny.) Even then it kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.
